Working With Children Checks

The most important work we do in schools is to work with children. An integral part of what we do is involving parents in this work. Parents can be involved in a wide variety of what we do at our school, including participating in school events, being a member of school committees and helping in your child’s class.

As part of our commitment to child safety, we require parents who volunteer to help in our classrooms to have a current ‘Working With Children Check’ (WWCC). We will often ask for volunteers with a WWCC to help out with;

•  Classroom Helpers

•  Excursions

•  Swimming

•  Sports Carnivals

•  Camps

As stated on the Victorian Government’s Working With Children Check Homepage, a WWCC, “assists in protecting children from sexual or physical harm by ensuring that people who work with, or care for them, are subject to a screening process.”

The process to gain a WWCC is simple:

•  Visit http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/

•  Fill in the application form and verify your identity online

•  Check the email that will be sent to you with instructions on how to finalise your application at Australia Post

•  Visit an Australia Post outlet, where your photo will be taken at no charge to you.

Once this is done, simply bring your WWCC to the office and we can add your details to our files.

Many of the activities we run, such as excursions, sports and camps, require the assistance of parents. It is a great opportunity for you to be involved in your child’s education and we hope to continue to broaden the group of parents who are involved in events at our school.
